The divisional charts are a unique tool of Vedic Astrology. While the rasi chart is the basic chart, each of the divisional charts focuses on a specific area – for instance, the navamsa which is a very popular varga chart is the ninth divisional chart where each house is divided into nine subdivisions and the planet is placed in the exact ninth division that it appears in the rasi chart. This highlights the strength of the planetary position.
Sage Parasara has prescribed 16 such charts to highlight various aspects of life, which is very helpful to do a detailed analysis of a horoscope. Vedic astrology uses the unique system of Dasa periods, which help astrologers to predict the timing of events promised in a horoscope.
Again the Astakavarga charts given the strength of a planet based on its relative position from the other planets. Planets may be strong or weak depending on where they are placed in a horoscope – how their strength is accentuated depends on the relative placement of the other planets. This is based on the premise that no planet works independently. A horoscope may be viewed as a matrix and the strength of this matrix depends on all the planets. The Pinda charts provide vital clues to the inherent strength of the planets in the horoscope. These are valuable tools for the astrologer to make his predictions.
